NEWS RELEASE Those with four legs and those with only two gathered on October 15th for Pet Hub Animal Rescue’s First Annual Family Fun/Spay-Neuter Event, sponsored by Pet Hub Animal Rescue, PETCO Foundation, Pearland Animal Control and Silverlake Animal Hospital. A crowd of several hundred people stopped by Pearland PETCO to take advantage of free pet sterilization services for low income individuals, free microchipping, City of Pearland pet registration amnesty day, low cost pet vaccinations, pet adoptions, child fingerprinting and information from the Laura Recovery Center. According to Tammy Dexter, Pet Hub Executive Director, “the event was a huge success. Our mission as a rescue is to help educate the community about the importance of pet sterilization, city registration, and how to improve your pet’s chances of being returned home if they are lost.” The SNAP (spay neuter assistance program) mobile clinic was full by 8 a.m. and sterilized 22 pets. The Silverlake Animal Hospital was on-site to implant free microchips in 27 animals. Approximately 75% of all City pet registrations were first time registrations. Also, several newly adopted animals found their “forever families”. The Pearland Police Explorers were on hand to help assist with child fingerprinting. The Laura Recovery Center was available to answer questions and pass out information on how to keep your children safe. Also as part of this event, several boxes of food was donated by those who came to the event for the Pearland Neighborhood Center to help fill the pantry. A fundraiser raffle for donated items was also held. A special thanks to the many businesses which contributed to the raffle - Dave Maggard “The Wine Man”, Blockbuster Video, Texas Central BBQ, FreeBirds, CiCi’s Pizza, Chili’s, European Wax Center, Half Price Books, Bella Nails and Spa, Mimi’s Café, Best Buy, Pei Wei, Lenny’s Sub Shop, and Meadowlake Pet Resort. All proceeds from the raffle help fund Pet Hub Animal Rescue projects and raise money for next year’s event. Pet Hub Animal Rescue rescues and fosters homeless animals until permanent homes are found, promotes spay/neuter programs, and helps return lost pets to their owners through its free PETS411 service.
